As General Counsel, Rob manages the Law Department and oversees all legal work including project development for all product types (retail, public charter schools, multifamily, hospitality, self-storage and office), landlord/tenant relationships, employment and labor law issues, risk management, corporate compliance, and management of outside counsel for transactional and litigation matters. He is also involved in the company’s development activities as a project attorney focusing on drafting and negotiating a wide range of complex agreements, real estate acquisitions, dispositions, leasing and due diligence, loan closings and tax-deferred exchanges. Rob began working with Hawkins and its predecessor, Hawkins-Smith, as a transactional and leasing attorney in February 1999.
Prior to his employment at Hawkins, Rob served as a law clerk with the U.S. Courts in the District of Idaho and also worked for a prominent law firm in Boise, Idaho. Rob received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Finance, with a Minor in Economics, from Oklahoma State University, and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. Mary’s University School of Law, where he was an editor of the St. Mary’s Law Journal. He is a member of the Idaho State Bar, the Association of Corporate Counsel, the Risk Management Society, the Society for Human Resource Management, the Urban Land Institute, and the International Council of Shopping Centers.
Rob and his wife, Wendy, enjoy family time with their four sons, who keep them very busy in the great outdoors hunting, camping, backpacking, and skiing, with school activities including music concerts and sporting events, as well as community involvement. Yep, they’re busy.
