As Director of Development, JD oversees Hawkins development and leasing processes and activities. JD originally started with Hawkins affiliate Hawkins-Smith as a transactional and leasing attorney in 1995. Since that time he has worked in the Legal, Pre-Development and De­velopment departments of the company. During his career he has consistently focused on the timely completion of the company development activities. Prior to his tenure at Hawkins, JD worked as in-house counsel for a publicly traded hotel company in Atlanta, Georgia, and for a law firm in Boise, Idaho. JD has closed transactions in most of the major U.S. markets and 31 states, and has substantial experience in entitling properties, property management issues, as well as utilizing public/private partnerships and tax increment financing for projects.

An experienced lecturer on commercial real estate matters, JD has taught classes on commercial real estate for the National Business Institute and the Idaho State Bar.

JD received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Boise State University and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Willamette University. He is a member of the Idaho State Bar, Oregon State Bar and the International Council of Shopping Centers
