National Coffee Day is celebrated each year on September 29th. It was first established in 2005 by the National Coffee Association in the United States. It has gained popularity worldwide as a day to honor the beloved beverage by all types of enthusiasts. According to an expert cupper (a professional coffee taster), there are four components of a perfect cup of coffee: aroma, body, acidity, and most importantly, flavor.
The earliest credible evidence of coffee drinking or knowledge of the coffee tree appears in the middle of the 15th century in the Sufi monasteries around Mokha, Yemen. Monks first roasted coffee seeds and brewed coffee, much like it is prepared today. Yemeni traders brought coffee back to their homeland from Ethiopia and began to cultivate the seeds.
Wüfyre® Coffee Roasters pronounced “Whoo-fire,” is enthusiastic about helping trailblazers find their path to rare and unusual artisan coffee right here in Boise, Idaho. Our very own Shayna Cox, Director of Property Management and her husband, Josh, are the brains behind this passionate hobby turned small business. Shayna and Josh explain, “All the roasts are small batch and customized to bring out the best flavor in the bean. Because details matter. Roasting coffee is both an art and a science. We feel it is important to know both sides. Coffee is one of the most complex fruits in the world. It takes time to extract the best tasting notes from green coffee.”
Wüfyre® Coffee Roasters sources green beans that are at their peak from small lot farmers of Kenya, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Peru, Rwanda, Sumatra, Columbia, Guatemala, Bolivia, El Salvador, Brazil, Bali, and Tanzania so far. When one lot is gone, they order another fresh batch to replace and update their offerings. Shayna and Josh add, “Our primary focus with roasting coffee is doing our part in the chain to ensure all the hand work the farmers put into the cultivation and care of their crop is carried through and tasted in the end result. Every single batch we roast is carefully roasted and cupped to ensure you are enjoying coffee at its best.”
Many thanks to Shayna and Josh for sharing their passion and talents for all things coffee on this National Coffee Day. And thanks to all the farmers who put in the hard work, so we can all enjoy amazing flavorful beans.
