Another Commercial Real Estate Designation – Building Owners and Managers Association International (BOMA®)

By: Beth Brookhouse

In the dynamic realm of commercial real estate, the Building Owners and Managers Association International (BOMA®) stands as a cornerstone of excellence and innovation.

“Founded in 1907, the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA®) International is a federation of U.S. local associations and global affiliates. The leading trade association for commercial real estate professionals for more than 100 years, it represents the owners, managers, service providers and other property professionals of all commercial building types, including office, industrial, medical, corporate and mixed-use.”

“BOMA® International is the partner individuals in the commercial real estate industry choose to maximize value for their careers, organizations and assets. Its mission is to advance a vibrant commercial real estate industry through advocacy, influence and knowledge.”

We have several employees here at Hawkins that are members of BOMA®:

Hawkin’s Senior Property Manager, Mari Holly is the Idaho Chapter Chair of the Education Committee professional for BOMA®. Mari loves all aspects of education, be it formalized, specific to one’s current role or specialized education to your specific industry. Mari’s passion for education will be taking her to the BOMA® Annual Convention this July to represent the state of Idaho.

Mari went on to state, “BOMA® attracts commercial focused leasing professionals, property managers, and owners; all who facilitate holistic thought processes. This brings versatility into thoughts and caters to members and the organization.”

Our EVP of Property Operations, Mindy Gronbeck, just this month received the 2024 BOMA® Idaho Advocate of the Year Award for Exceptional Service to advance the industry. Mindy is pleasantly surprised; to say the least, and that award sure speaks volumes. Way to go Mindy!

BOMA® offers several annual events: CRE Symposium, Cornhole Tournament, Excellence Awards, Golf Tournament, and Emergency Preparedness. Mari told me about a new instituting event called “Lunch & Learn,” where education opportunities are provided outside of certifications that apply to the industry as a whole. For example, in October 2024, there will be an industry professional who will present more detailed information to be able to apply to principal owners to membership dynamics! BOMA® continues to evolve to set standards, provide education, and advocate for the interests of property owners and managers worldwide.

By embracing innovation, promoting sustainability, and advocating for the interests of its members, BOMA® ensures that the commercial real estate industry thrives in an increasingly complex global marketplace. As BOMA® continues to evolve in a rapidly changing landscape, its commitment to excellence remains unwavering. BOMA® is dedicated to shaping its future and driving positive change for its members and the communities they serve.
